Seminar - Heading for the Exit

In January 2008 we co-hosted the first of our seminars for owner-managed businesses in the creative industries sector entitled “Heading for the Exit”, which was a great success.

Heading for the Exit was a collaboration between Sheridans, accountants Grant Thornton and public relations firm Franklin Rae designed to provide an insight into the fundamentals of getting one’s business into good shape for sale or investment.

Over recent years there have been a number of important transactions, particularly in the UK television production market: we have been involved in many of these.

Our aim was to provide a balanced view of what to expect and how best to plan ahead for the transaction process as well as to indicate the potential pitfalls and the benefits of getting it right.  We also gave some tips on best practice in developing one’s business.

This was clearly a subject of interest to our guests: the seminar was oversubscribed and we had over 60 attendees.  We are now planning the next phase of workshops and possibly a repeat event.

The event was enhanced by the contribution of clients Magnus Temple and Nick Curwin from Firefly Productions which was sold to Shine Media last year.  Their account provided a fascinating first-hand insight into the experience of selling one’s business and the need to take early specialist advice.
