Morris Bentata

Morris is a partner specialising in sports and media. His practice focuses principally on the creation, acquisition, exploitation and protection of media and marketing rights to major sports properties and he regularly advises national and international governing bodies, event organisers, individuals, agencies, sponsors and broadcasters.

The Legal 500  for 2011 describes Morris as "one of the best lawyers in the sports field" and recognises him as one of the "leading individuals"  in the sports sector. Chambers and Partners 2011 says "the quality of his work is outstanding".

Recent work includes advising:

• Tour Racing Limited on sponsorship and commercial arrangements for Team Sky, the professional cycling team owned and sponsored by British Sky Broadcasting Limited;
• Sportfive International on the marketing and sale of media rights to premium sports properties throughout Europe and Asia;
• News International on various content acquisition matters including digital publishing;
• Wasserman Media Group on a variety of matters including corporate acquisitions and employment matters;
• Pitch International on the acquisition, marketing and sale of international media rights to various major sports events including the RBS 6 Nations.

Morris regularly speaks at conferences, gives radio interviews and writes articles on sports media and sponsorship issues. Morris also teaches sports media on the British Association for Sport and the Law (BASL) and De Montfort University Sports Law and Practice programme.

Morris is the author of the Broadcasting and New Media chapter of the leading sports law textbook Sport: Law and Practice  (Lewis & Taylor) and is a Director of the British Association of Sport and the Law (BASL).
